Can I visit the puppies?
While we love that people want to learn more about our Golden puppies, and we encourage you to ask any and all questions you may have, we do not allow visits outside of the appointment set to pick up your puppy once he/she has reached 8 weeks of age. Ultimately, the health and safety of all our animals is our number one priority, and the risks inherent with allowing visitors is simply too great.
One of the main risks we seek to avoid is the potential contraction of Parvovirus, a potentially deadly disease that affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs, and will typically kill an entire litter of young puppies if contracted. Parvovirus lives on any surface that an infected dog has touched and can survive for years after the initial encounter. The disease is transmitted as people unknowingly carry it from the infected area via their shoes or clothing, and even the smallest amount can infect a puppy and subsequently an entire litter. It is because of this and the potential spread and infection of other canine diseases that we do not allow visits. Everyone at Red-Dawn follows an extremely strict protocol when entering the house and other areas on the property to avoid spreading disease, and it is simply not feasible to enforce these protocols with the public. Again, we have the very best interests of both our animals and our clients at heart, and each of our policies is meant to support that intention.
In addition to the safety precautions, we also do not allow visitors as the likelihood of meeting the parents of a future litter you might be interested in is slim. We house a limited number of dogs at Red-Dawn, and the majority of our parent Goldens live as pets in their co-owner homes. We have also found that meeting puppies in current litters is not productive as those puppies are likely reserved and therefore not available.
One solution we offer is for you to attend one of our Golden Romps. These events bring together Goldens and their owners from surrounding areas to play and interact with each other and any visitors. This provides an opportunity to meet the offspring of some of our Red-Dawn Goldens, and can help give you an idea of what to expect from our puppies. You will also have the opportunity to meet and speak with the owners and gather information from them about their experience with Red-Dawn and our Goldens. These events typically happen once every few months and are always fun, relaxed, and a great excuse to be surrounded by some awesome dogs (and people)!
Please read our reviews on Facebook. This is a great way to learn from past puppy buyer’s experiences in dealing with Red-Dawn, the quality of our raising protocol and temperament of puppies we produce.
We hope this info answers all your questions about visiting us. Please feel free to contact us if you have any lingering questions. And we hope to see you at one of our Golden Romps!
Cheers,
The Red-Dawn Golden Family
